《2005年佛光會世界總會北美幹部講習》【人間社記者妙益洛杉磯報導】國際佛光會世界總會主辦「2005北美洲幹部講習會」12~13日於西來寺舉行，計有來自美加近300位佛光會幹部參加，其中更包括30餘位美籍人士。課程包括：國際佛光會世界總會秘書長慈容法師講授「菩薩道的實踐」、都監院院長慧傳法師教授「活動策劃與執行要領」、西來寺住持慧濟法師「佛光會的性格」及北美巡迴檀教師永東法師與洛杉磯協會陳居會長聯合主持的座談會--「我自覺了什麼？」。此外，還特別邀請到洛杉磯亞太家庭服務中心分部主任鄭建宏博士為會員傳授「繁忙生活中的身心安頓」並特別播放《世代交替：佛光山住持陞座典禮》DVD，讓會員共同見證佛光山歷史性一刻。國際佛光會創會會長星雲大師為佛光會員開示及綜合座談，為講習會高潮。大師以8點勉勵幹部：
1. 在物質上學習簡樸─身心不被物質所縛。
2. 在生活上學習技能─萬貫家財不如一技在身。
3. 在語言上學習幽默─幽默像香水、美味。
4. 在做人上學習藝術─教育小孩、夫妻之間都須要藝術。
5. 在處世上學習低調─不低調容易遭嫉有障礙，要學習謙虛、含蓄。
6. 在工作上學習勤勞─黃金隨流水流下，也要彎腰撈起來。勤勞、愛心、慈悲是傳家寶。
7. 在志趣上學習奮起─做人可以圓滑、做事要四四方方。能幹的人小事可以做成大事，不能幹的人大事做成小事。
8. 在學佛上學習發心─要發心自覺、發心行佛。心如田，田地開發就能成長。
大師妙語如珠，讓幹部們心開意解，如雷掌聲不斷。

《The Opening Ceremony of 2008 BLIA General Conference》“In Ven. Master Hsing Yun, Buddhism has found a reformer, an innovator, and an educator. Under his strong leadership, Buddhism has extended beyond traditional temple life to integrate and further enrich the modern living of city dwellers. Today, it has transcended national boundaries and has afforded people from all over the world the opportunity to be a part of it.” If you have a chance to participate in The Opening Ceremony of 2008 BLIA General Conference, you will understand what has been said in the first paragraph of "BLIA World Headquarter - The Origin". There are 15, 000 members of BLIA waves with their different national flags and screams joyfully in the brand new Kaohsiung Arena. Delegates of BLIA overseas dress in costumes that are representative of their countries or cultural heritage indeed enhance BLIA’s internationalism.
President Ma praises BLIA has promoted Three Good Practices Campaign, “Do Good Deeds”. “Speak Good Words” and “Think Good Thoughts”.
Ven. Master Hsing Yun presents flags to newly formed BLIA chapters around the world. He also leads Inauguration Ceremony for BLIA Chapter President, Certification Ceremony for BLIA Elder Advisor, and Certification and Promotion Ceremony for BLIA Lay Dharma Lecturer.
“Drums and Fans”, “Rhythmic Gymnastics” and “Dunhuang Dance” have performed after the award giving ceremony. It is so speculate with “Dunhuang Dance”, there are different classes at different local BLIA chapters in Taiwan. Dancers have been selected and then practiced together for this performance. It is an excellent case of team work! You have to be there to appreciate the beauty with the movement, the rhythm, and the music!
Each seat has put a candle. At the end of the opening ceremony we have lighted up our candles and pray for the world peace. A video has prepared, it has moved all of us!
